Lumentum shares rose 8.19% to $818.10 on Monday after StoneX initiated coverage with a Buy rating and a $1,200 price target. The optical networking stock traded as high as $840.47 during the session, according to market data. The call renewed attention on a sector tied to data-center investment, but Lumentum remains below its reported 52-week high of $1,143, and its next quarterly results are due on 5 November.

The move was not limited to Lumentum. Coherent gained about 5.9% to $221.57, while Applied Optoelectronics rose about 7.3% to $72.44. The gains followed a difficult stretch for optical names and placed investors’ attention back on the suppliers whose components help move data through AI infrastructure.

StoneX’s Target Puts the Focus on AI Optics

StoneX’s Buy initiation and $1,200 target imply substantial upside from Monday’s close, although a price target is an analyst estimate rather than a forecast of where the shares will trade. The immediate market response shows that the recommendation helped draw buyers back into Lumentum; it does not settle the question of whether demand, production and earnings can support the valuation embedded in the target.

Lumentum makes optical and photonic products used in cloud and networking markets. Its products are part of the infrastructure required to connect servers and data centers as demand for AI computing expands. The investment case rests in part on the expectation that faster networks and more interconnections will increase demand for optical components and lasers. That industry thesis has supported a sharp rise in the stock over the past year, while also leaving the shares sensitive to changes in expectations and valuation.

Monday’s broader sector move suggests investors were reassessing the group rather than reacting solely to a company-specific announcement. MarketWatch reported that Lumentum led S&P 500 gainers as optical stocks rebounded after the prior week’s decline. It cited renewed investor interest in the sector, healthy AI-related earnings, and expectations around continuing investment in AI infrastructure. The market report also discussed potential constraints on optical component supply and possible US restrictions affecting Chinese suppliers, though those factors remain separate from StoneX’s rating.

The Rally Has Not Reclaimed the High

At $818.10, Lumentum closed roughly 28% below its $1,143 52-week peak. That distance puts Monday’s gain into perspective: the shares staged a strong one-day rebound, but had not erased the recent pullback. A single analyst initiation may influence short-term positioning, yet the company’s forthcoming results should give investors a more direct opportunity to assess recent demand and its financial conversion.

The move in peers adds context but does not make the companies interchangeable. Coherent advanced 5.9%, and Applied Optoelectronics gained 7.3% on Monday. They participate in parts of the optical supply chain, but have different products, customers, financial profiles and reporting periods. Their share-price gains show that investors were buying across several optical names; they do not establish that each business faces the same supply constraints or growth trajectory.

For readers following the wider sector, FinanceFeeds previously examined Lumentum, Coherent, Ciena and Corning in the AI optics trade. Monday’s price action brings the same investment question back into focus: how much of the expected expansion in AI infrastructure has already been reflected in suppliers’ share prices, and how much can still appear in reported revenue and earnings?

November Results Will Test the Demand Story

Lumentum has scheduled its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results for after the market closes on Thursday, 5 November, according to its investor-relations calendar. The report will arrive shortly after Coherent’s first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on 4 November. Applied Optoelectronics is also scheduled to report on 5 November. The close sequencing may give investors an opportunity to compare how demand is developing across suppliers, while keeping in mind that their business mixes differ.

For Lumentum, the results will provide company-specific evidence after a session driven by a fresh analyst call and broader sector buying. Investors will be able to assess reported revenue, profitability and management’s outlook against expectations for optical demand. The company’s performance will also need to be considered alongside its capacity to fulfil orders; demand for components does not automatically translate into immediate sales if production or customer qualification limits deliveries.

The next sessions could bring further volatility as investors weigh the $1,200 target against the share price and the upcoming results. Monday’s 8.19% gain established a strong rebound, but the shares remain below the 52-week peak, and no single analyst rating can resolve how earnings will develop. The report on 5 November is the next scheduled catalyst that can add company-level detail to the AI optics narrative.

Takeaway: StoneX’s Buy rating and $1,200 target helped propel Lumentum higher, with Coherent and Applied Optoelectronics also advancing. The rebound has not restored Lumentum to its 52-week high; its 5 November results will provide the next test of whether AI-related demand is translating into company performance.
